Thrice-crowned Most Valuable Player Jokic suffers a 'devastating' knee injury.

The Denver Nuggets star earned the NBA's Most Valuable Player title in three of the past four years.

Thrice-crowned National Basketball Association MVP Nikola Jokic suffered a "gut-wrenching" injury to his knee while the Nuggets fell by a score of 147-123 against the Heat.

Jokic was hurt in the latter stages of the opening half in an inadvertent collision with fellow Nugget Spencer Jones.

His teammate landed on the foot of Jokic, and he promptly went down to the ground holding his leg.

The 30-year-old, that is leading the league this season in boards and assists, had 21 points and eight assists in the matchup before suffering the injury.

He is scheduled for an scan on the following day to evaluate the severity of the problem.

"Right away, he realized he was hurt," stated Denver coach Adelman.

"This is part of the NBA. Any player who gets hurt, that's gut-wrenching, most notably somebody as important as he is. More information will come on Tuesday."

"We will continue together. Clearly, right now, I am focused primarily about Jokic personally and the frustration of experiencing an event like that."
